Margo thought he had taken that really well. She watched him walk on the beach and then went in to take a shower. She wasn’t sure how long he needed, but she wasn’t going to rush him, and while he was thinking, she would freshen up. A woman needed her power clothes when waiting on decisions like this.

Thirty minutes later, Roman came back into the condo.

“I can’t see me changing my mind about being a donor, but I will help you to discover if this is what you really want to do,” Roman said.

Margo smiled. “That’s good enough. While you were out, I thought I would get a jump on the planning part,” Margo said.

Roman smiled and held up his hands. “You mean you knew I would say yes?”

“I told you, you are one of the last good guys. You might not have agreed to be a donor, but you would definitely say yes to helping me discover if being a mother is for me,” Margo said with a smile. “So, the first thing I like to do when I do an audit is to make a schedule and then determine where the risks are.”

Margo proceeded to pull down the yellow magnetic pad off of her refrigerator. She had just finished swallowing the rest of her coffee when she looked up to see Roman smiling at her.

“Is there something funny that I have missed?”

“I'm curious. You've had Christina for the last four days. How well do you think her staying on schedule has gone?”

“Well, the only reason that the schedule hasn't gone very well is because we haven't written it down and shared it with Christina,” Margo replied back to him. “I do this all the time when they come and stay with me for the weekend, and we go to an amusement park.”

“Oh, I see. You mean Christina doesn't mind following a schedule when everything on the schedule is something that she wants to do,” Roman said.

Margo sat back in her chair and had to think about what Roman had told her. After reflecting over the years that Christina had come to stay with her, it was true. She always presented Christina with a schedule for the three or four days that she would be staying with her. But Margo always made sure that everything on the schedule was something that Cristina wanted to do.

“So, what you're telling me is that because there will be things she doesn't want to do, she's not going to want to follow the schedule?”

“Bingo!”

“I need coffee. In fact, I think during this whole time, that will be a standing rule. Coffee needs to be ready at all times. I want you to know I have read the books, and they say that it is very important for children to have a schedule to feel secure,” Margo said as she went to prepare some more coffee.

“There are other ways for children to feel secure,” Roman said, taking a seat at the table.

“Successful children need early role models so that they will be successful adults,” Margo repeated.
